Michael Davis (Mike) Tinley, passed away peacefully August 24, 2018 surrounded by his family. Michael Davis Tinley was born July 17, 1937 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Bobette Marie Daniels Tinley and Dr. Robert Emmet Tinley.
He was the second of four sons born to this couple. The family moved to Denver City, Texas when Mike was twelve years old. He attended Denver City schools and graduated from high school there in 1955.
He graduated from West Texas State College in Canyon, Texas with a Bachelor's in accounting. He went to work for Daniels Insurance in January 1960 and was employed there for 58 years. In 1972 he became president of Daniels Insurance.
While Mike was interviewing for his Daniels Insurance position, he met his future wife, Barbara Turner, who was employed there. He married the love of his life, Barbara Turner Tinley on July 8, 1961. They recently celebrated 57 years of marriage.
They started their family and were blessed with 3 daughters and a son. Mike was active in civic and professional organizations including: New Mexico Association of Independent Insurance Agents, New Mexico Surplus Lines Association, New Mexico Life Leaders Association, Association of Oil Well Servicing Contractors, Lea County Insurance Association, Lea County Life Underwriters, Board member of the University of the Southwest, Board member of Industrial Development Corporation of Lea County, President of United Way Fund, Director of Junior Achievement, Board member of University of the Southwest Board of Trustees, Board member of Hobbs Boys Club and a member of St. Helena Catholic Church.
Mike was a veteran, having served in the United State Army and was honorably discharged July 3, 1966.
He is survived by his wife Barbara, children; Pamela Tinley Greebon (Ray), David Michael Tinley, Diane Tinley Neirynck (Rob) and Allison Tinley Friend (Ty). He was a beloved Papa to his seven grandchildren; Lauren Leong (Andrew), Abby Neirynck, Jack Neirynck, Gracie Neirynck, Jessica Friend, Erin Hines, Will Neirynck and one great-granddaughter, Nora Jean Leong, his brother, Robert Emmet Tinley, Jr., and many nieces and nephews.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents Dr. Bob and Bobette Tinley; two brothers, Mathew Adrian Tinley and Patrick Anthony Tinley.
