Melvin "Buzz" Thomason was born in Caddo County, OK to Cliff and Lucille Thomason on February 22, 1933. He passed away August 5, 2015 in Hobbs, NM.
He moved to Hobbs when he was 18 years old. He married Marvel Dowell in 1955. Buzz and Marvel enjoyed sixty great years of marriage and were blessed with three children, Keith Thomason of Midland, TX; Lydia Easter of Weatherford, OK, and Randa Bartlett of Hobbs, NM.
Melvin always felt honored to serve his country during the Korean War in the Army.
Buzz had a forty year successful career with John West Engineering where he was manager of the wireline division and served on the board as Vice-President. After retiring to keep a little spending money in his pocket, he went to work as a greeter at Wal-Mart. He earned their highest honor "The Golden Vest". Buzz's greatest loves were his Lord and Savior and his family. He and his wife served many years driving buses, Sunday School, youth groups and Jr. Churches and is currently a member of Temple Baptist Church. He served as trustee and was an ordained Deacon. He developed a heart for missionaries and supported them through prayer and giving.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, a baby sister Betsy, and older sister Mildred Weaver, a younger brother Gene Thomason; in-laws Elton and Marie Dowell and a brother-in-law Audis Dowell.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife Marvel, children; Keith and Joanna Thomason, Lydia and Craig Easter, Randa and Tim Bartlett, two younger sisters; Willene and Melba and a younger brother Bobby.
Papaw's pride and joy were his eight grandchildren; Chad and Jena Easter, Seth Bartlett, AudreyAnn and Derek Shephard, Jim Wyche, Zach and Melissa Bartlett. He was blessed again with three great grandchildren; Jayven Easter, Deacon Shephard and Blakely Shephard.
