Maura Hournbuckle

May 24, 1968 — July 14, 2019

Hobbs

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Maura Hournbuckle, our loving mother, grandmother, devoted wife and friend for life to all those she touched and encountered on July 14, 2019 in the early morning hours in Lubbock, Tx. This world was blessed with her arrival on May 24, 1968 in Richmond, Virginia to James and Nancy Dickson.  On September 7, 2004 she married the love of her life Kenny Hournbuckle Sr. With this marriage they combined what she referred to as her 5 “dysfunctional children”, whom she loved very much, Shannon Cates, Beverly Hournbuckle, Kenny Hournbuckle Jr (Wife Heather), Colleen Wane and Michael Wane. With these 5 children she gained 11 grandchildren, which she loved and doted on very much. She was world-renowned for her knack of knowing her husband’s, children and grandchildren’s medical history. How she did that, we will never know or understand how, but grateful she could. She also always, in not so many words, would and could “tell you like it is”. You either listened or you didn’t. But with that also came lots of encouragement, wisdom and comfort. Most of the time, kept us all in line and gave us something to pass down to our children. She was a member of our Military service. She served in the Air Force from August 1989 to September 1991. She was a Fuel and Transportation Specialist. She graduated from John F Kennedy High School in 1986. She enjoyed baking, cooking, knitting and crocheting. She loved having our dad taking her to the mountains when the leaves would start to change colors for the fall season. He would try to take her every year for their “mini-vacation”. She is survived by her husband, Kenny Hournbuckle Sr, 11 grandchildren, her mother, Nancy Dickson from Reston, Virginia and 2 brothers, Kevin Dickson, Sr. from Warren, Ohio and Casey Dickson from Warren, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her son, James Marik Wane and father, James Kenneth Dickson.
