MaryN Gage, 75 years young, of Hobbs, New Mexico received her Angels wings in Lubbock, Texas, February 22, 2014 at University Medical Center.
February 25, 1938, in Cutbank, Montana, MaryN was born to E.F.Shortie Morris and Cleone Morris. She attended school in Tyler, Texas, graduating from John Tyler High School. Afterward she attended Tyler Junior College. She and her longtime friend DeLora Hinegar Parr were Apache Bells. She also was voted Best Dressed at T.J.C. She then attended college at the University of Arizona, where she received her Bachelors Degree in Teaching. She then attended New Mexico State University, acquiring her Masters Degree in Teaching, specializing in Reading. MaryN was inducted into Whos Who of Teachers nine times, received the New Mexico Board of Presidential Award, also the Excellence in Science Award several times. She received multiple awards at University of the Southwest, including many honors for encouragement and support to graduating seniors. She was named outstanding Educator of the Year. MaryN received multiple USW Eagle awards. She was name College Lane Elementary Outstanding Master Teacher Award. She served on St. Helena Schools Board of Directors.
MaryN was feared by many students and loved by more She taught in Tempe, Arizona, Odessa and Van Horn, Texas, Shelby, Montana, Lovington, New Mexico, and then Hobbs, New Mexico, teaching at Southern Heights, College Lane, and University of the Southwest.
MaryN married James Gage November 5, 1966 in Acua Coahuila, Mexico.
She loved horses, her dog Cahnayhoe, and attending lunch at the Senior Citizen Center where they recently celebrated her birthday. She gave generously to ALL people, especially family, friends, students, and St. Judes Childrens Hospital. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and NEA for teachers. In her heart if she was able to teach one child one thing that was an achievement, so to teach so many so much would be her lifelong achievement. In the same light, her disappointments were lack of respect in and by children, and lack of discipline allowed by teachers and parents. She had a very full and happy life, many many adventures with family, friends, and past and present students.
MaryN is survived by son Eric, daughterinlaw Montana, and grandson Hadley. As well as a large host of family and friends. She has a favorite horse, Precious, and her dancing dog Cahnayhoe.
Maryn was preceded in death by her parents E. F. Shortie and Cleone Morris, and her husband James Gage.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, March 7, 2014, at St. Helena Catholic Church, with Fr. Juan Carlos officiating. Dont Dwell, Excel.
