Mary Seay, 98, was born March 8, 1926, in Van Buren, Arkansas to Tom and Ola Cates. She passed away August 25, 2024 in Hobbs, New Mexico.
At the age of 5, the Cates family moved from Arkansas to Lamesa, Texas where Mary went to school, graduated, met and married Joe Seay in 1946 and started a family. Mary and Joe moved from Lamesa to Artesia, NM in 1959, and from there to Jal in 1962, then to Smithville, Texas. She loved gardening and to go fishing and camping with her family, even when the fish weren't biting. After Joe's retirement, they moved to Eunice and then Hobbs. They were very active in senior center dances. Mary loved dancing, country and gospel music and loved to sing, especially with her sisters when they were alive. She was excited to play Bingo and Dominoes, especially when she won, and to color and paint. She had and met many friends at the Beehive, where she lived the last year.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Ola Cates, her 3 brothers and 3 sisters, her husband of 58 years, Joe Seay, son Gary Seay, Grandson Ryan Seay, Great-Grandson Keaton Beseda, and her favorite Son-in-Law, Jim Parrish.
Mary is survived by four children, Brenda Parrish of Portales, Jack Seay and wife Beverly of Whiteface, Texas, Eddie Seay and wife Rena of Hobbs, son Danny Seay of Hobbs, 8 Grandchildren and 11 Great-Grandchildren.
At Mary's request, no services are scheduled.
We would like to give a special thanks to Starla McCann and the compassionate staff of the Beehive for the loving and kind care she received while there.
