Jeanette Hicks, 76, went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 23, 2013, with her daughter sitting beside her . She was born February 4, 1937, in Wellington, Texas, to Roy and Vergie Jackson. Jeanette married J.W. Hicks in Hobbs, New Mexico on July 18, 1958. They raised two children and lived in the Knowles community until his death in 1996. Jeanette remained in the Knowles community and was an active member and pianist for 50 years at Bethel Baptist Church. She served the church as the Sunday School secretary, VBS teacher and was the church treasurer for the last 25 years.
Jeanette was a bookkeeper for the Lawrence Gin for several years and worked as the Office Manager for Dr. Monteverde for the past 26 years. Jeanette loved God and her family and spent many enjoyable hours at birthday parties and family gatherings. Her greatest pride was her two grandchildren. She tried to never miss any of their activities. She treasured the time spent with them.
Jeanette is survived by her daughter, Karen Taylor and husband Brett of Amarillo, Texas, her 2 grandchildren, Brittany Taylor, who attends Baylor Law School in Waco, Texas, Kirby Taylor who attends Texas AM in College Station, Texas, a daughterinlaw, Felicia Hicks of Hobbs, New Mexico, 2 sisters, Rae Dean Morris of Lubbock, Texas , Carol Ann Thompson and husband Gene of Hobbs, New Mexico, nieces and nephews, Charlotte Cusic and Chelby Hinds, Mike, Cheron, Taylor and Cody Thompson, Mike and Jeannie Jessup and Kelby and Kallum Clack all of Hobbs, New Mexico.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J.W. Hicks, her parents, Roy and Vergie Jackson and a sister Jeanne Foust. Her son, Roy Hicks, died hours after her death and joined her in heaven.
Services will be held Friday, September 27, at Bethel Baptist Church on the Denver City Highway, in Hobbs, New Mexico. Reverend Bruce Kirby will officiate. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive guests at Bethel Baptist Church fellowship hall on Wednesday September, 25, from 57 p.m. and also on Thursday, September 26, from 79 p.m.
