Mary Hewett

January 16, 1926 — December 15, 2014

Mary Helen Biswell Hewett, 88, of Hobbs passed away December 15, 2014 at Lea Regional Medical Center. She was born to Joe and Antonia Rivera in Hamlin, TX on January 16, 1926. She grew up in Hamlin and attended Hamlin High School. She later graduated from nursing school in Abilene, TX and returned to work at Hamlin Memorial Hospital where she met and later married Tony Biswell. They moved to Hobbs where Helen began working for Dr. Badger. She later assisted Tony in starting an antique furniture store, pawnshop and jewelry store.

She gave birth to their only child Katina Biswell of Hobbs in 1956.
She later married Ray Hewett of Hobbs on May 27, 1994. She was a tireless, loving caregiver to Ray during his lengthy illness to which he succumbed in 2008.

She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Sammy and Fred Rivera, one sister, Alice Williams and her husbands Tony Biswell and Ray Hewett.

She is survived by her daughter and only child Katina Jo of Hobbs and her sister Adella Miller of Hamlin, TX, her nieces Sylvia Sutherland, Paula Higgens, Mary Helen Reloba, Patricia Smith, Olga Cooper, Cindy Riven Snider, Angelica Shipman, Toni Saizan, nephews Peter Camacho, Joe Rivera, Alton Dean Williams, Sammy Rivera, Samuel Rivera and Harold Loyd Miller and their families to which she was at various time aunt, great aunt, mother, confidant and at all times a truly wonderful person who always had a smile and kind word for them all. Anyone who knew Helen is better for knowing her. She will be missed but never forgotten.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Friday, December 19, 2014 at Chapel of Hope Funeral Home, 3321 North Dal Paso, Hobbs, NM. Interment will follow at Prairie Haven Cemetery, Hobbs, NM.

Pallbearers will be Peter Camacho, Joe Rivera, Harold Loyd Miller, Ronald Cooper, Casey Camacho and Derric Frederick.
