Martha Arrowood Tate, 89, of Hobbs, went to be with the Lord on January 18, 2013. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 22, 2013, at Chapel of Hope officiated by Pastor Guy Coup. Interment will follow in Prairie Haven Cemetery. Martha was born in Clarksville, TX, in 1923. Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of Hope.
Martha attended school in Hobbs, NM. She married Ray Arrowood in 1940. He was killed in an oilfield accident in 1963. Martha was a volunteer with the Pink Ladies Auxiliary for several years at Lea Regional Hospital. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi. Martha and Ray were instrumental in the building and organizing of Northside Baptist Church from breaking ground to the first building. She was a charter member and her children were all saved and baptized in the new auditorium in the early fifties. Martha worked for many years in Brunells in Ruidoso. She loved her work and made many friends in Ruidoso and in Hobbs. She had a magnetic personality and made friends easily. She was even making new friends while in the hospital during her last days. The nurses loved her.
Martha married L. Z. Tate in 1964. She and L. Z. enjoyed travel and adventure together. They were members of Sierra Club in Ruidoso, NM.
Surviving Martha is her husband, L. Z. Tate, of Hobbs daughters, Carolyn Richards of Farmington, NM, Connie Ream of Hobbs and Michaelyne South, and husband Rodney, of Hobbs 13 grandchildren, 24 greatgrandchildren and 6 greatgreatgrandchildren.
