Martha Boone

Martha Jean Boone, 81, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, May 23, 2011. Jean was born on May 5, 1930, in Detroit, Michigan. At the age of two and a half, she was adopted from the Catholic Orphanage in Memphis, Tennessee, by her parents Augustus and Vera Ellington McKinnon, of Mena, Arkansas. Jean was educated in Arkansas, and went on to receive her Bachelors degree in Education from Henderson College in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, and a Masters degree from George Peabody College of Education, in Nashville, Tennessee. She also attended Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, New Mexico, for her Education Administration Certification.

Jean married R. L. Lew Boone on June 26, 1958, in Nashville, Tennessee. They made their home in Hobbs, where she was a lifetime wife, mother and educator. She will be deeply missed, but will live forever in our hearts and memories.

She was preceded in death by her son, John Mark Boone, and her parents, Augustus and Vera McKinnon. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Lew Boone, of the family home daughter Luann Martin and husband Connie Mack, of Shreveport, Louisiana son Randy Boone and wife Jessica of Bedford, Texas three grandchildren, Morgan, Mark and Mackenzie Martin, all of Shreveport, Louisiana. She is also survived by her nephew, Kirk Boone, of Denver, Colorado nieces, Karen Anderson of Killeen, Texas, and Kim Conner, of Abilene, Texas, as well as her cousins, Wayne Mixon of Seminole, Texas, Betty McGowan of Minden, Louisiana, Clyde Ellington of Minden, Louisiana, and Nancy Ellington of Shreveport, Louisiana.

Pallbearers will be Kirk Boone, Connie Mack Martin, Ron Nelson, Wayne Mixon, Phil Troutman, and Jimmy Curtis. Honorary pallbearers will be the McDonalds Coffee Club.

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 25, 2011, 5 7 p.m. at Chapel of Hope Funeral Home. Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, May 26, 2011, at Chapel of Hope Funeral Home. Private burial will take place at Prairie Haven Memorial Park.
