Maria de la Luz Franco, 91, was born December 6, 1921 in Coyame, Chihuahua, Mexico to Maria De Jesus Saldana and Lucas Ramirez. She passed from this life on November 17, 2013 in Hobbs, New Mexico.

Maria married Pilar Franco in Coyame, Mexico.

Everyone who knew Maria knew her as Mama Luz. Family and friends were her love and joy. Her love was so big and one of a kind. She was a strong, bighearted woman and faithful to the Catholic Church and God. She dedicated her entire life to loving and supporting her family. She worked for Hobbs Head Start for several years, loving her students like her own. She gave her family almost 92 years of love and joy her presence will forever be with us all. Mama Luz was the chain that kept her family linked together. She will always live in our hearts.

Maria is survived by her children son Antonio, son Abelardo, daughter Fidela Nieto, son Eladio, son Manuel, and daughter Luz Maria Arriaga, all of Hobbs. Also, Twentyfour grandchildren, 74 greatgrandchildren, and six greatgreat grandchildren survive Mama Luz.

Maria was preceded in death by her husband Pilar Franco, and daughter Hortencia F. Gauna.

Rosary will begin at 6 pm, Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at Chapel of Hope. Funeral Mass is scheduled at St. Helenas Catholic Church at 2pm, Thursday, November 21, 2013. Interment will be at Prairie Haven Memorial Park.
