Rosario "Chayo" Acosta

November 6, 1954 — November 24, 2024

Hobbs

Maria Rosario “Chayo” Muñiz Acosta, 70, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away surrounded by her family on Sunday, November 24th 2024.

Born in Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico, Chayo was the youngest of ten children. She emigrated to the United States with her parents Pedro and Romana Muñiz in 1970.

She met and married the love of her life, Concepcion Acosta, in Lovington, NM and together they raised five children and numerous grandchildren here in Hobbs.

Chayo was a Matriarch, not just in her own home but in her community. Every visitor to her home left fully fed and blessed by her hospitality. While she had several careers, it was her at-home daycare that was best known as a trusted place of love, care and education for well over a decade.

As a stalwart and avid parishioner of Our Lady of Guadalupe, she was a member of Las Guadalupanas, and until her health failed, she was a steadfast fixture in the Choir, and at family fairs and community breakfasts.

Known as a tireless cook, demand for her homemade dishes, especially her salsa, extended well beyond Hobbs into Europe and Central America.

Traveling the world with her beloved sister Armida, she visited faith sites like the Vatican in Italy, The Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City, and the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes in France.

Rosario is survived by her husband Concepcion Acosta; Children Cynthia (Alexis) Ainsworth, Jorge Acosta, Rosario (Erik) Quiroz, Adriana Acosta, Laura (Tai) Acosta Lopez, and Fifteen grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her Father Pedro Muñiz, Mother Romana Muñiz, Brother Jose Paz Muñiz, Sisters Paula Galindo, Manuela Gonzalez, Guadalupe Muñiz, Lazara Quintana.
