Manuela Avila

A funeral Mass for Manuela Fuentez Avila of Hobbs, N.M., was held at 1 p.m. CDT Saturday, July 7, 2007, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in McCamey, Texas, with Father Laurent officiating. Burial followed at Crane Cemetery in Crane, Texas.

Mrs. Avila, 71, died Wednshy;esday, July 4, 2007, at her home in Hobbs, N.M. She was boshy;rn Feb. 25, 1936, in Rankin, Texas. She married Jacobo Avila Sr. on Aug. 28, 1969, in Rankin, Texas.

Mrs. Avila was the original cook for the Nipa Hut starting in 1986. She enjoyed the casishy;no, traveling and loved her children and grandchildren. She was a member of St. Helena Catholic Church.

Survivors include four sons, Jake Avila and wife Angie of McCamey, Texas, Noa Avila and wife Jana of Hobbs, N.M., Everado Shorty Fuentez and wife Lupe of Hobbs, N.M., and Jake Calanchi of Tucson, Ariz.; four daughters, Alice DeLeon and husband Roy of Hobbs, N.M., Nora Ponce and husband Manuel of Hobbs, N.M., Carmen Avila of Hobbs, N.M., and Isabel Ford and husshy;band Mike of Hobbs, N.M.; a special friend, Luisa Rodriquez of Hobbs, N.M.; a brother, Fred Fuentez of McCamey, Texas, Mercy Longoria of Hobbs, N.M., Katy Abalos of Winnie, Texas, and Caroline Guererro of Lubbock, Texas; 24 grandchilshy;dren; and 30 great-grandchilshy;dren.

Manuela was preceded in death by her husband, Jacobo Avila Sr. in 1983; a son, Guadalupe Wally Avila; her parents, Sotero and Carmen Fuentes; four sisters, Rosa Aguilar, Stephanie Armanderiz, Maria Villegas and Josephine Luna; and a brother, Sotero Tito Fuentes Jr.
