Mamie Curtis Oney, 86, of Hobbs, NM died December 29, 2016 in Lubbock, TX. She was born to the late McDonald and Maude Barlow, April 15, 1930, in Lovelady Township of Caldwell Co. North Carolina. Mamie graduated from Granite Falls High School. Former husbands C. B. Curtis of Sawmills, NC and John Oney of Portales, NM, preceded her in death. Mamie worked many years as a nurse's aide at Roosevelt General Hospital of Portales, NM and was also lovingly known as "the Avon Lady" to many. Mamie was a member of the Church of God of North Carolina. When her health began to become an issue, she moved to Hobbs, NM and lived with her daughter.
Mamie is preceded in death by her oldest son Johnny Curtis (Pauletta) of Hobbs and is survived by her sister, Reba Lynn of Hudson, NC, daughter Darlene Lowe (Thurman) of Hobbs, sons Rodney Curtis (Carmen) of Saucier, MS and Marty Curtis (Carol) of Gaffney, SC. 7 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren also survive her.
