Mrs. Blanton, 83, died March 8, 2007, at her home in Hobbs, N.M. She was born Oct. 16, 1923, in Alton, Ill. She married Charles Blanton on Feb. 29, 1948, in Lovington, N.M.
Mabel moved to Hobbs, N.M., in the 1940s: She was a charter member of the Women of the Moose and served as deputy grand regent over New Mexico, Colorado and Arizona. Mabel was employed by Furr's Cafeteria for more than 20 years.
Survivors include four daughters, Lynn Hudgens and husband Rick, Debbie and Betty Blanton; all of Hobbs, and Sandy Schulz and husband David of Loco Hills, N.M.; a brother, Charles Johnson of Loyalton, Nev.; grandsons, Jason Armstrong and Dylan Blanton of Hobbs, N.M.; a great-granddaughter, Jakelynn Armstrong of Hobbs, N.M.; a great-aunt, Edna Thompson of Hobbs, N.M.; and a great-niece; Charla Bascom of Hobbs, N.M.
Mabel was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, on Dec. 7, 1993, and a daughter, Rebecca Blanton.
