L. Z. Tate, a proud World War II veteran, was born September 20, 1918 in Gorman, TX to Hattie and William Tate and passed away October 20, 2014 in Hobbs. He attended school in Desdemona, TX. The attack of Pearl Harbor took him to Camp Berkley, Abilene, TX with the US Army. He served as a Combat Infantry man, served in Normandy, Northern France under General George Patton, Ardennes and Rhineland, Central Europe. He earned Victory Ribbon, American Theater Campaign Medal, EAME Campaign Medal with 5 Bronze Stars with Bronze Arrowhead, Good Conduct Metal, 1 Service Stripe and 3 Overseas Service Bars. He was discharged on DDay in 1945 and moved to Hobbs in 1947 where he worked at Watson Truck. He married Martha Arrowood Widow in June of 1964 until her death in 2013.
Mr. Tate was preceded in death by both parents, a brother, Kenneth, his wife Martha, daughter Carolyn Richard of Farmington, NM and three grandchildren.
Survivors include two daughters, Connie Ream and Michaelyne Rodney South of Hobbs, lots of grandchildren, greatgrandchildren and four greatgreat grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place and a family memorial will be held at a later date.
