Lolly Oakes passed away at home on Tuesday, August 30, 2016, at the age of 91. She was born in Shields, Texas, on March 14, 1925, to James Howard and Virgie Walker Arrant. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill Oakes, her parents, three brothers, and a sister.
She graduated from Santa Anna High School and Shannon School of Nursing (now San Angelo State University) with an RN degree. She worked in all areas of nursing including the operating room, private duty nursing, and office nurse for several local doctors during vacation periods. These included Dr. Coy S. Stone, Dr. Jack Kernan, and Dr. T. G. McCormick.
She married William V. Oakes on July 26, 1945, in San Angelo, TX, and they moved to Hobbs in June of 1953.
Mrs. Oakes was an active member of Chapter Q, P.E.O Sisterhood for 56 years, and First Presbyterian Church, where she served as Elder.
She is survived by two daughters, Pam and husband David Porter, and Paula Seeker, both of Hobbs; Grandchildren Mindi Porter Smithson of Missouri City, TX, Lindsey Porter Goss and husband Brandon of Missouri City, TX, Cody Porter and wife Deana of Centerville, GA, and Kat Seeker-Williams and husband David of San Diego, CA, and seven great grandchildren.
