Lillian Joanne Newton, 93, of Jal, passed from this life April 9, 2013, in Hobbs. She was born November 22, 1919, in Parker, SD, to Amos and Lillian Jones. Joanne began her nursing career in 1939 at the age of 20, and after working in numerous medical facilities in SD, TX and NM, decided to donate her body to Texas Tech, before retiring to become a homemaker. Her hobbies included crossword puzzles, playing SkipBo with anyone brave enough to join her in a game and crocheting. Joanne was famous for crocheting pot holders and always had one ready for each new friend she met Although she will be missed greatly we are all thankful for the 93 years of life she was given and for having such an amazing woman in our lives.

She is survived by two daughters Cathie Fifer of Jal, NM., Cheryl and husband Billy Guthrie of Littlefield, TX. two sons, Curtiss and LaVerne Newton of Hobbs, NM., and Bruce Newton of Odessa, TX. eight grandchildren, seventeen greatgrandchildren and one greatgreatgrandchild along with numerous nieces and nephews and a special sisterinlaw Ruth Newton Zafft.

She is preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters, a son Jon Baker, a granddaughter, a daughterinlaw, a greatgrandson and a grandsoninlaw.
