Larry Hanna August 5, 1952 October 12, 2010, was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to Don Sarah Hanna. He had one brother, Donald E. Hanna of San Francisco, California. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services for Larry will be held Friday, October 15, 2010, at First United Methodist Church in Hobbs at 10:00 a.m. under the direction of Chapel of Hope Funeral Home. Services are to be conducted by Pastor Darren Skinner. Visitation for the public will be held Thursday, October 14, 2010, from 9 a.m. 7 p.m. at Chapel of Hope. Contact Chapel of Hope for extended public visitation schedules. Interment to follow at Prairie Haven Memorial Park.
Larry and Judy Hanna were married November 9, 1995, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
He is survived by his wife Judy son and daughterinlaw, Scott and Allison Mulkey and two grandchildren, Carter and Mason Mulkey and brother, Donald E. Hanna.
Larry graduated from Southern Methodist University SMU in 1978 with a doctoral degree in Jurisprudence. In 1979 he came to Lea County and served as Assistant District Attorney. He served as Guardian Ad Litem for Lea County, protecting the best interest of children through the court system, and was a voice for those who had been abused and neglected. He was actively involved in the Community Playhouse, both as an actor and as a past board member from 19841999. He was selected as Hobbs JayceesHobbs Chamber Outstanding Citizen of the Year in the 1990s. Larry was Lea County Government Attorney from 1992 to present, and a private practice attorney handling employment litigation, land use, public finance, ordinaces, contracts, small business and some commercial litigation. He was past attorney for the Town of Tatum and current City attorney for Eunice and Jal. He served on the board of the New Mexico Junior College for 2 years before being elected in 2003 as chairman. He has served on the NMJC Board as Chairman from 2003 to present. He served as County Attorney Affiliate NM Associations of Counties, was a past Lea County Bar Association President, and a member of the Lea County Bar Association. He was past President of Teen Court served on the Lea County Community Federal Credit Union Board. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, served on various committees and sang in the choir. He was a member of the Antique Automobile Club of America, the Roadrunner Auto Club and was a president of the Hobbs Chamber of Commerce in 1997. He served as President and board member of the Hobbs Rotary Club 20082009. He was an active member of Southeast NM Cycling. He was a member of Record Club and enjoyed breakfast at McDonalds with friends. Larry served on the Board of Directors Guidance Center from 19901995. Larry was named Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary this year. He served on numerous other committees. He was a graduate of Leadership New Mexico and a highly respected citizen with a powerful voice in the community. He always provided a clear and dynamic guidance into the future, wherever he was involved. He will be missed deeply by his friends and family, and respected for the positive legacy he has left for so many people.
