LaVerne (Burk) Shaw passed from this life November 4th at about 10:20 am at the age of 90. She was born June 9, 1927 to parents T.E. and Pauline Burk in Brackenridge, Texas. The family moved to Monument, New Mexico in 1929 where grandparents Dory and Josie Burk were ranching.
In 1933 the small family moved to boom town Hobbs where she attended Hobbs schools graduating from Hobbs High School in May 1944. She studied at Abilene Christian College in Abilene, Texas but opted for an MRS degree by marrying Charlie D. Shaw on February 14, 1947 at Taylor street Church of Christ in Hobbs.
The couple became parents of two sons, Lynn C. Shaw and Lane K. Shaw. She loved being a homemaker, was an avid PTA er and Band Parent mom as well as a Cub Scout Den mother. She later was a secretary at Hobbs High School and a medical secretary for Dr. Don M. Lowery. When her husband went into real estate, she became secretary/bookkeeper there as well.
Upon retirement, the couple traveled extensively and enjoyed RVing with friends. They visited Europe, Canada , Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, the Caribbean, the British Isles and all fifty states until ill health curtailed their travels.
She loved piecing quilts, water coloring and wrote and published 18 mystery romance novels.
She is survived by two sons, Dr. Lynn C. Shaw of Las Cruces, and Dr. Lane K. Shaw of Santa Fe, two granddaughters, Courtney Huizar of Belmont, California and Erin Buck of Crested Butte, Colorado, two great-grandsons Zane Reda and Corbin Buck both of Crested Butte, and one great-granddaughter, Lauren Huizar, of Belmont California. She was preceded in death by her parents, on son Loren Eric Shaw and one grandson Ryan Carlton Shaw all of Hobbs.
