Larry C. Squires died on March 22, 2017 in Hobbs, New Mexico. He was born September 18, 1932 in Sentinel, Oklahoma to Carl and Reba Squires. They moved to Hobbs on February 14, 1948.
Larry attended Hobbs High School and graduated in June, 1950. He entered the United States Air Force in January 1951, honorably discharged February, 1953. Larry attended Colorado State University and New Mexico State University. After returning to Colorado State, he received a degree from the School of Veterinarian Medicine in September, 1956. Larry also received a Bachelor's Degree in Biological Science in 1957 and then Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in June 1960.
Larry operated a large and small animal practice in Hobbs from 1960-1968. He was the owner and president of Snyder Ranches, Inc. from 1968 to the time of his death. He married Laura Martin in 1975 in Hobbs. They lived on the family ranch west of Hobbs for 25 years before moving into town where he resided until the time of his death.
Larry was very involved in his community serving on different boards and being a member of many organizations. Listed are the offices and memberships that he held: Director of New Mexico Bank & Trust Company and GTE, Campaign Chairman of Hobbs United Fund, past president of Hobbs Boy's Club, member of Hobbs Rotary Club, New Mexico Cattlemen's Association, New Mexico Oil & Gas Association, and New Mexico Veterinary Medicine Association. He was licensed to practice veterinary medicine in New Mexico, Texas, and Oklahoma. Larry was a licensed pilot of over 20 years, having multi-engine and instrument ratings with over 10,000 hours.
Larry loved fishing! Fishing for bass was his favorite. He was an avid golf fan and loved playing the sport anytime he could.
Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Squires, his parents, and a brother, Jerry Squires.
He is survived by three children and their families: Susan Squires Foster of Hobbs, William Larry Squires and wife, Linda, of Hobbs, and Ronald Walker Squires and partner, Frank Pennino, of Santa Barbara, California, and grandchildren: Emily Squires of Austin, Texas, Alan Squires of Las Vegas, Nevada, Allison and Tony Torres of Acworth, Georgia, and two great-granddaughters, Lola and Isla Torres, of Acworth.
