Larry K. Derington, 73, died May 6, 2012, at his home in Hobbs. He was born January 21, 1939, in Merkel, TX, to Arthur and Mona Derington. Graveside services will take place at a later date at Roselawn Cemetery in Merkel, TX.
After high school Larry joined the U. S. Air Force. Upon his discharge, he became a mechanictruck driver. He enjoyed fishing, playing dominoes with his family and Nascar.
Surviving Larry are four daughters, Candy Messenger, and husband Ralph, Jr., of Lubbock, TX, Cindy Bankston of Hobbs, Wendy Leeper, and husband Carl, of Hobbs, and Sandy Brown, and husband Jay, of Hobbs sisters, Wanda Brewer, and husband Charles, of Winters, TX, and Michelle Lewis, and husband Terry, of Trivoli, TX brother Robert Derington, and wife Carla, of San Antonio, TX grandchildren, Melanie Barrientos, and husband John, of Lubbock, TX, Kenneth Bankston of Florida, Catherine Bankston of Portales, NM, Jade Leeper, and husband Andy, of Hobbs, David Leeper, and wife Justina, of Hobbs, Sean Leeper, and wife Valerie, of Hobbs, and Justin Leeper of San Angelo, TX eight greatgrandchildren and many aunts, uncles and cousins and the mother of his children, Claudia Derington, of Hobbs.
Preceding him in death were his parents soninlaw, William Bankston and numerous family members.
