Larry Van Brooker of Hobbs, NM passed away at the age of 84 in Andrews, TX.
He was born in Crews, TX on March 24,1938 and the first born to E.O and Lola Brooker.
Larry grew up in Levelland, TX and later he and his wife Mary Brooker moved to Hobbs, NM where they currently reside.
Larry worked in the oilfield industry most of his life. In 1969 he was a supervisor at Pioneer Well Service where he first met his wife, Mary Brooker. He was later employed with Exxon Mobile and retired from the company in 1992. After 3 years of retirement Larry went back into the workforce and into the oilfield. He was employed as a consultant for Apache Oil Company and had an on and off again work relationship with them for 12 years before fully retiring.
After meeting Mary in 1969, they reconnected years later, fell in love, married on December 22, 1978, and spent the last 44 years of marriage together.
Larry never missed an episode of his favorite game show Jeopardy, he has a passion for golf, chess, and fishing with his Uncle Tip.
You could always find Larry reading and working on a crossword puzzle which was a daily routine for him while he was at home.
When visitors came over for a visit, Larry would always challenge them to an honest game of darts, especially his son Ricky Van.
Larry is survived by his wife Mary Brooker, 4 sons whom they shared their life with, Carey Brooker (Lenora) of Andrews, TX., Tony Brooker (Mary) of El Paso, TX., Rick Brooker of Odessa, TX., Kenny Lyon of Seminole, Tx. and always a daughter in-law, Margie Brooker of Odessa, TX.
Their sons blessed them with 21 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren with one expected on March 25th, and 2 great great-grandchildren.
5 Siblings, sister Linda Cookston, of Levelland, TX, brothers Bob Brooker of Graham, TX, Ronnie Brooker of El Paso, TX, Kenny Brooker of Dallas, TX and Denis Brooker of Austin, TX.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, and parents EO Brooker and Lola Brooker.
