L. Perkins

L.C. Perkins, Jr., 85, was born on December 10, 1928 to Lawson Cecil Perkins, Sr and Zellie Ethel Barringer Perkins in Megargel, Texas. He was a son of a sharecropper, the youngest of nine children.
Mr Perkins passed away January 30, 2014 in Hobbs, New Mexico.
L.C. graduated from high school in Seymour, Texas. He worked at JC Penney in Seymour, and then he was inducted into the U.S. Armed Forces of America November 10, 1950. He transferred to the Army Reserve on September 20, 1952. He was honorably discharged September 24, 1956, where he had served in Alaska during the time of the Korean War. Upon his discharge he returned to work at JC Penney, where he was then transferred to Hobbs, New Mexico, and worked there until joining the U.S Postal Service. He then worked his way up to Postmaster of the Hobbs Branch, where he worked 35 years until his retirement.
He married Helen Krause on August 4, 1956 in Hobbs, and were married until the time of her death in 2001. He then met and married Millie Botkin Perkins in November 2002 in Ruidoso, New Mexico. They were married until her untimely death in 2004.
He enjoyed traveling with both of his wives, and was proud of having visited all fifty states.
L.C. and Helen both served as postmasters at the same time. Helen served at Monument, New Mexico, while L.C. served at Hobbs, New Mexico. They also both retired from U.S.P.S., which was a very uncommon occurrence and which they were proud to have accomplished. He was an active member of the National Association of Postmasters of the United States, having served in all positions, including New Mexico State President. He also served in the Lions Club as Secretary, Treasurer, Lion of the Year in 197778, President 198081. L.C. was a faithful longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Hobbs, where he served on many committees, where he continued until his failing health would no longer allow.
L. C. is survived by three daughters, Bobbi Hukins, and husband Brady, of Amarillo, Texas, Robin Karrh and husband Gary, of Amarillo, and Kathy Botkin, of Littleton, Colorado grandchildren Brady Hukins, Jr and Laci, Audrey Getman, Rachel Getman greatgranddaughter Dawsyn Hukins nephews, Richard Perkins, Ralph Perkins, Danny Cockroft, and Mike Jackson nieces, Peggy Bohanon, Carol Huff, Janice Chandler, Debby Sosolik, and Cathy Williams numerous greatnieces and greatnephews.
Mr. Perkins was preceded in death by his parents sister Wincie Cockroft brother John Perkins brother Morris Perkins brother Ruel Perkins and sister Zonelle Jackson both wives nephews George Jackson and Billy Don Jackson.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, or First United Methodist Church of Hobbs.
Visitation will be Monday, February 3, 2014 from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., with family in attendance from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Chapel of Hope. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at First United Methodist Church, officiated by Pastor Darren Skinner, assisted by Chaplain Elio Barrios. Interment will be at Prairie Haven Memorial Park.
