LB HARRIS

Harris LB, January 3, 1918 - July 3, 2008. L. B. Harris was born January 3, 1918, near Combine, in Kaufman County, Texas. He was married to Margaret Ausbrooks in Garland, Texas, on May 21, 1938. He died July 3, 2008, in Lovington, New Mexico. He lived most of his life in Dallas and Kaufman counties, but for the last 17 years he lived with his wife Margaret in Hobbs, New Mexico, next door to his son and daughtershy;-in-1aw, Jim and Mary Harris. He is surshy;vived by his wife, Margaret, to whom he had been married for 70 years. He is also survived by a daughter, Judy; a son, Jim; a daughtershy;-in-law, Mary; and the following grandchildren: Hawk Harris, Kevin Gramly, Denny Gramly, Lisa Harris, Rachel Harris Burnett. Other survivors include his sister, Vedith Ragsdale, and these nephews: Sammy Ragsdale, John Ragsdale, Travis Harris, and Douglas Harris. He is also surshy;vived by five great-grandchilshy;dren, Allison, Emily, Jeremiah, Hope, and Pilar.

He was preceded in death by his father, Loy Benjamin Harris; his mother, Effie Patterson Harris; his brother, Lloyd; and his son Jerald, who died in 1985. He was also preshy;ceded in death by his sisters Edith, Opal, and Loreta.

In World War II, he was a draftsman for the Army Corps of Engineers. He was the passhy;tor of several churches in Dallas County, and served as a missionary for the Baptist Missionary Association of Texas. He also served as the State Secretary for that organshy;zation. He delivered sermons and conducted revivals in Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Louisiana, and he oversaw the construction of several church buildings. He was a pastor, counselor, and friend to hundreds of in
iduals. In addition, he was a great storyteller and a fantasshy;ic fisherman who, if he had competed, would have held records for world class crappie. L. B. Harris loved God, church, and country. He was a man who always looked to the happy side of life and wanted everyone around him to be happy. His sisters and his brother were special sources of strength for him. He was a devoted husband and a loving father, grandfather. and greatshy;grandfather.

Visitation will be Monday July 7, 2008, from 5 - 8 p.m. at Restland. Service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 8. 2008, in Restland Memorial Chapel.
