Kenneth Sagerty

Ret. Maj. Kenneth Timothy Sagerty went to be with the Lord on December 26, 2019 at the age of 80 years in Hobbs, New Mexico. Tim was born in Phoenix, Arizona on January 2, 1939.

He married his best friend and soul mate, Sharon Morris Sagerty, on December 28, 1960 at First United Methodist Church, Hobbs, NM. Through 59 years of marriage, they traveled the world, pursued their education, and enjoyed hobby’s together. He loved reading and history, continuing his education through books. Tim earned his BS in History and MEd from New Mexico State University. He also was a Professor Emeritus from the College of the Southwest.

Tim served 21 years in the U.S. Army, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam, earning two Bronze Stars and additional service medals. He was a Professor of Education at the College of the Southwest for 13 years, where he taught teachers how to teach.

Tim was a loving and caring man, devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, a true renaissance man. Tim was a life-long Methodist, having earned his God and Country Award as a Boy Scout, and member of First United Methodist Church of Hobbs.

Tim was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Lena Sagerty, his in-laws Marcellus and Irene Morris, and daughter Sandra Sagerty.  He is survived by his wife Sharon Morris Sagerty, sister-in-law Jackie Shelton, brothers-in-law, Larry Morris and Tony Morris; daughters, Kim and David Portillo, Hobbs, NM and Kathy Seago and Scott Daugherty, Midlothian, TX; grandchildren Trinity and Maj. Martin Mangum, Nikki and Anthony Elliot, Sgt. Sean and Stephanie Sagerty-Webb, Chelsea and Justin Archibald, Nikki and Scott Russell, Nathan Portillo, Brian Portillo, Bri and Sgt. Wyatt Petersen; great grandchildren, Sam, Elizabeth and Emma Mangum, Luke Del Vecchio, Logan Seago, Grayson Petersen, Kayla and Deacon Russell; Pat Boiler, dear family friend; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
