Katie Atwood

Funeral services for Katie Atwood of Hobbs, New Mexico, will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 9, 2008, at Northside Baptist Church with Pastor Brad Reimers offishy;ciating. Burial will follow at Prairie Hashy;ven Cemshy;etery.

Visitation is 8:00 - 11:30 a.m. today at Chashy;pel of Hope Funeral Home.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.

Mrs. Atwood, 89, died December 6, 2008, at Lea Regional Medical Center. She was born October 12, 1919, in Comanche, Texas. She married C.D. Slim Atwood on February 27, 1938, in Rising Star, Texas. He preceded her in death on February 26, 1965.

Katie was born in Comanche, Texas, to Sam and Hattie Kornegay. She has lived in Hobbs since 1950. Katie was a member of Northside Baptist Church more than 50 years. She served as an election offishy;cial since 1956.

Survivors include a son, Benny Atwood of Hobbs, New Mexico; a daughter, Joyce Smith and husband Travis of Freeport, Texas; a grandson, David Smith and wife Susan of Lake Jackson, Texas; a granddaughshy;ter, Stacy Nelson and husband Chris of Brazoria, Texas; a great-grandson, Daryl Nelson of Brazoria, Texas; two greatshy;granddaughters, Cristen Nelson and Caitlen Nelson, both of Brazoria, Texas; a great-grandson, Matthew Smith of Lake Jackson, Texas; and a great-granddaughter, Lauren Smith of Lake Jackson, Texas.

Katie was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two sons, Bobby and Jimmy Atwood; and five siblings.
