Kathryn Coyle

October 27, 1931 — April 5, 2018

Ola Kathryn "Tootie" Scarry Coyle passed from this earthly life on April 5, 2018 and joined her late husband D.O. "Coonie" Coyle in Heaven. He has been waiting for her to get there since 2010. They were married for forty-seven years, when Coonie passed away. Also there to greet Kathryn was her Dad, Tom Scarry, who passed away in 1972 & her Mother, Berniece Cooper Barton, who preceded her in 1975.

She had an only child, Patty Bratcher Rucker, who was not only a daughter, but a best friend. They often joked about "raising" each other, since Kathryn was such a young Mother and most people thought that they were sisters. In the later years, people would mistake Patty for Kathryn & she'd come home to tell her Mom, "Well, so & so thought I was you today, and I didn't tell them any different." A joke they played on many and laughed about a lot.

Her Son-In-Law, Gene Rucker, often visited with her while Patty was in college & joked that he married Patty, only because her Mom was already taken. They had a special bond, that most "in laws" are never fortunate to share. He couldn't even tell who for sure he was talking to on the phone, because they sounded so much alike. Gene lost both of his parents when he was only twenty-one, and found a new set of parents in the Coyles.

Kathryn was the proud Grandmother to David Shawn Rucker & Kaci Dawn Oldham. They were her pride & joy and she was always bragging on their achievements. She went to all of Shawn's football games, Boy Scouts, theatrical productions, and was one of his loudest cheerleaders. He was an only child until Kaci was born seven years later, then came all the years of the tap, ballet, & jazz dance recitals, gymnastics, Rainbow for Girls activities and was their major fundraiser supporter. They could always count on their Granny to make their quota of sales. Kaci's husband, Matlock Oldham, was welcomed into the family when they married in 2010.

Great Grand Children, William Riley Rucker & Kathryn "Katy" Oldham were also doted on by their Granny. William Riley taught his great grandparents how to operate the computer, at the early age of 4-5 years old and he's still a techno whiz. Katy followed her Mother's footsteps and became an accomplished dancer for several years. Katy also loves to play soccer and has done that for the last seven years, being on many championship teams. Taelor Quinn Oldham, who resides in Odessa, Texas was an added bonus to the family when Kaci married Matlock, and she is loved by all of the family.

Although their family is a small one, it has never been without the love and encouragement of both Coonie & Kathryn. After starting their new businesses 35 years ago, they were so proud of their Daughter, Grandson, Grand Daughter and now Great Grandson to carry on the company's family traditions with Coonie's Explosives & Black Powder and Coyle Services. They use to tell everyone "we're just a small Mom & Pop operation", but you'd never know they were small because of the impact they made on the Explosives industry. They were very well thought of & will be missed by so many customers who were also considered friends.

Kathryn also leaves behind many treasured friends, some since her childhood, growing up in Monument, NM. She was proud to be a Monument Indian, playing in the band and traveling in the school bus driven by her Dad, to all school events. Her Grandparents, James & Iola Cooper settled in Monument in 1906 arriving by covered wagons, thus beginning a long legacy of proud Lea County pioneers. The family has always bonded together to "work" the Cooper cemetery plots on Christmas & Memorial Day each year for the past 50 plus years. This was something dear to Kathryn & Berniece's hearts, that they never forget their family buried there and pay tribute in this small way of weeding & decorating their graves in remembrance.

Probably the most special person in Kathryn's life for the past four years has been Romeo aka "Baby". He has been Kathryn's constant companion and never left her side, especially when she got sick. We all joked that little dachshund was her "service dog" because he could make her smile like no other and she loved him & patted him until her last breath.

Words can never express our love and gratitude to three special ladies who made sure that Kathryn always looked her best. Linda Lopez kept her nails perfectly manicured for over forty years, Lucy Wohlekinz was her hairdresser for the last several years and whenever Kathryn couldn't get out to see them, they came to her.
Lucy Dominguez played such a special part in all of the family's lives for over 30 years making sure the house & offices always sparkled, but in these last few years she has been a loving care giver in addition to taking care of everything else. These ladies are more like family than friends.

The Kindred Hospice nurses & aides were a God sent these past six months and we'd like to thank each of them for their loving kindness extended to Kathryn. She appreciated their compassionate care giving, along with all of the family. What a great service they extended to all of us.

Until we meet again in our Heavenly reunion, rest in peace and prepare the way for those of us who will follow, even though our hearts are broken, Heaven gained a special angel who will be there to greet us when the time comes.
