Karen Rosetta Gilbert a loving wife, mother and grandmother passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday September 20, 2024, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas at the age of 63. She was born to Leon Franklin Evans and Bonnie Sue Molder in Ft. Riley, Kansas, on March 16, 1961.
Karen married Michael Forrest Gilbert on June 26, 1980, in Hobbs, New Mexico, where they spent the next 44 years raising their family. She was an excellent cook and especially liked making sweets for all to enjoy during the holidays with peanut butter fudge and strawberry shortcake being her specialties. She enjoyed arts and crafts including coloring, painting and sewing. She made all the kids Halloween Costumes and all the Holliday decorations. She enjoyed fishing and going to the river to relax and get away from the hustle of city life. Her greatest joy in life was being Memaw to her grandchildren who she enjoyed sharing stories and life lessons with. Her second joy was her furry dog buddies Chloe and Cookie who were her constant companions. She enjoyed country music, and dancing, always making sure her and Mike were the first on the dance floor.
She is survived by her Husband Mike, daughter Casey Lynn Jones (Tony), grandchildren Nicholas Solomon, Makenzie Solomon, Courtney Shmultzer (Carson), Ray Solomon, Anthony Jones, Mariah Jones and Aiden Jones, daughter Rebecca Sue Gilbert grandchildren Baleigh Gilbert, Michael Gilbert, Kaitlyn Gilbert and Conner Gilbert. Three sisters Sandy Evans, Sherie Lamar Culwell, Kelly Bates (Sean), and brother David Franklin Evans and Stepmom Dixie Evans. Numerous nieces, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by both parents and an infant son Robert Allen May. Her paternal and maternal grandparents and sister-in-law Staci Evans.
A special thanks to Family Health Center and Kidney Care in Hobbs, Covenant Medical Center and the Palliative Care Service in Lubbock for the good care they took of her.
