Junior "Pop" Aubrey Green passed away peacefully in Big Springs, TX on March 15, 2019 at the age of 92.
Junior is survived by his spouse Berta Green of Hobbs, NM, sons; Rodney Green and spouse Roxanne Green of Palisade, CO, Randy Green and spouse Toni Green of Hobbs, NM, daughter-in-law; Rhonda Green of Eunice, NM, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings Moslle Drinnon of Melbourne, OK, and Ruth Faye Purvis of Muscle Shoals, AL. He was preceded in death by his sons; Ricky Green of Eunice, NM, and Reggy Green of Hobbs, NM.
Junior was born on November 15, 1926 in Shallowater, Texas to Ruth and Homer Green. He completed is high school education following deployment with the United States Navy to the Pacific during World War II. He married Berta Green, the love of his life, on December 26, 1948. After moving to Hobbs, Junior worked in the oilfield and later becoming the shipping foreman for Kerr-McGee Potash Mine and working at the Lea County Road Department as a heavy equipment operator. Over 7 years, Junior and Berta welcomed 4 sons into their home and Junior set about teaching them how to hunt, fish, play baseball, and soccer. His children will remember him as a dedicated father.
Junior was an avid outdoorsman who loved teaching his grandchildren how to fish and hunt; his favorite fishing times were spent on the Rio Grande with his friends and family. He was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars having served as Hobbs Post Commander, New Mexico State Commander, and held national offices. He was also a member of The American Legion and The Masonic Lodge.
A reception will follow at Crosswinds Community Church. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Junior's life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Crosswinds Community Church or Hobbs VFW POST 3274.
