Raymond Garza, age 67, died Saturday, February 16, 2019 in Hobbs, NM after a long battle with his illness. He was born on September 30, 1951 in Lamesa, TX.
Mr. Garza is survived by his wife, Mary, four children and five grandchildren: Sidney Garza, Carlos Garza, James Garza, Marcia Garza, Kason Garza, Tatiana Cotton, Kylee Garza, Urijah Garza and Exzavion. He also leaves behind seven siblings; Doroteo II, Ruby Villegas, Betty Mata, Teresa Bravo and Ray all of Hobbs, NM and Rachel McCain of Birmingham, AL. He was preceded in death by his father, Doroteo B. Garza, sister Yolanda Scott and maternal grandparents; Agapeto and Ruperta Garza.
Raymond was a veteran of the Vietnam War, he served from 1971 to 1973. He grew up in Hobbs, NM, the second son of Doroteo B. Garza and Maria Garza. As one of the youngest children he was loved and spoiled by his parents and siblings, he was active and involved in many sports and activities including his Boy Scouts memories he cherished to this day. As he grew older, he worked as surveyor for John West Engineering from 1979 to 1991 until his disability. He was a lifelong fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Longhorns a love he shared with his sons and grandsons. Raymond was a faithful member of The Door Christian Fellowship Church for 37 years. He was an elder and inspiration to the church community, he passionately shared our Heavenly Father's good words and was instrumental in leading many people to Christ.
Raymond's final words to his family and church family, "Gods never early but he was never late, the journey was not easy, but he never let me down, he was always on time." "I fought the good fight and I finished the race."
