Joyce Evelyn Frederick, 87, of Hobbs, New Mexico, died Saturday May 15, 2010, in Flower Mound, Texas, surrounded by her family.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, June 12, 2010, 2:00 p.m. at Chapel of Hope Funeral Home. Joyce was born on March 29, 1923, on the family farm north of Bunker Hill, Kansas, the daughter of Pearl T. and Kathryn E. Shaffer. She attended school in Bunker Hill and graduated from high school in 1941. She was united in marriage to LeMoyne Richard Frederick on November 21, 1948, at Bunker Hill Methodist Church. From this union they were blessed with four children, Judy, Sharon, Steve and Carol. In 1963 the family moved to Pratt, Kansas, and then to Los Alamos, New Mexico, before settling in Hobbs, where she has lived since 1967. She sold Avon for a time and then worked as a proofreader for the Hobbs NewsSun for 15 years before her retirement in 1986. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church her entire life. She enjoyed traveling and singing with the Jubilee Choir of Hobbs and was a member for over 15 years. Joyce loved cooking, rose gardening, playing piano, traveling with family and working puzzles. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her many grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. Joyce made friends easily and was loved by many and will be deeply missed.
Joyce is survived by her children Judy Schlotterback and husband, Larry of Farmington, New Mexico, Sharon Turner of Odessa, Texas, Steve Frederick and wife, ZhaNette of Arlington, Texas, and Carol Noble and husband, Larry of Flower Mound, Texas 11 grancdhildren, Holly, Amy, Katie, Lori, Scotty, Greg, Chris, John, Kayla, Sarah and Rachel and two greatgrandchildren, Pete and Gena. In addition to her family, she left behind many special friends, including longtime friend, Nicky Rachel, who was always there when she needed her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, LeMoyne, her parents, brothers Everett Leland Shaffter, Sister Marjorie Rabas and infant sister Letha Shaffer.
Memorials may be given to Star Hospice of Hobbs or Disabled American Veterans.
