On November, 7, 2024, surrounded by his loving family, Joe Cabella Acosta peacefully entered the gates of heaven as they opened wide to welcome him home where he met his savior, Jesus Christ. A God loving man, Joe was born on January 24, 1944, to Josepha Cabella and Antonio Ramirez Acosta.
Upon moving to Lovington, NM, he met the love of his life, Geneva Garza. Against much opposition, they married on July 21, 1961, forever remaining in-love, best friends and happily married for 63 years. Soon thereafter they began fulfilling their life with family - four children: Lilly, Joe Jr., Michael and Robert Acosta. As life progressed, Joe met his blessed savior, Jesus Christ. His love for the Lord led him to become an ordained minister and teacher for the many who encountered him. He became involved in voluntary missionary work where using his talent and experience as a well-known building contractor he built churches in the U.S, Mexico, Honduras, Panama, El Salvador, and Guatemala for the poor who had not experienced worshiping and finding safety in a church. As a licensed general contractor, he built beautiful homes in Hobbs in which families continue to enjoy the unique and creative beauty in his intentional designs. While being a loving husband and father, he was also a successful entrepreneur and built several businesses in Hobbs. For those that knew Joe, know that we lost one of the greatest, strongest souls on Earth, a man that many depended and relied upon when in a difficult situation; you could always count on him! Everyone will agree that his strength came from God. We will forever remember his greatest lesson – to be humble and patient. Joe was quite a storyteller, sharing his adventures with those he encountered; memories that will always be with us. And that memorable “giggle” and “smile” will live with us forever.
His children blessed him with seven grandchildren: Matthew, Daniel, Jerrel, baby Joseph Michael, Cecilia, Tanisa, Miranda, and multiple great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, cousins, siblings and family. Joe has two surviving siblings; sister – Rita Rodriguez of Lovington, NM and brother – Carlos Acosta of Ruidoso, NM. Joe was proceeded in death by his sons, Joe Jr. and Michael; his siblings Gabina Gonzales, Juana Castillo, Marsela Jasso, and Juana Castillo as well as his parents Josepha and Antonio Acosta.
