Hughes, 26, died December 9, 2010, in Hobbs. He was born April 16, 1984, in Hobbs.
Jon attended Lovington High School where he graduated in 2002. He also attended NMJC continuing education and welding courses. Jonathan experienced a traumatic event that resulted in losing his leg. This event led John on the right path to fulfilling his life by working with amputees. This year, he became a prosethetic leg fitter and maker for Ron Sanders. He loved to watch and see the smiles he put on peoples faces who had not walked for years. He ws a born natural and loved doing it. He loved riding, anything from dirt bikes to crotch rockets but his love was stunt bike riding. He may have had only one leg but rode with the ability most with two could only wish. On weekends, Jonathan loved teaching his three nephews to follow in his footsteps by learning to ride and taking his girlfrtiend on biking expeditions. His mother was his life. She was not only a mother, protector and helper, she was his best friend. Family and friends were very important to him and treasured every minute he had with all of them. At the end, Jon found the person he loved dearly and wanted to spend his life with, Britteny Shea. More than that, Jonathan found the love of a child, Avery Mayes, Brittenys daughter. To Jon, Avery was his baby. He loved and treated her as such. They were his world.
