Jon Martin

August 28, 1940 — December 13, 2014

Jon always said he had the childhood that everyone should have. He had loving and devoted parents. an extraordinary relationship with his grandfather who lived with him spent Saturday afternoons at the movies, took him to get haircuts, ate breakfast with him every morning until he was in high school. He loved the relationship he had with his brother. Even tho he pestered Bob to follow him everywhere. He still calls him every Sunday to check on him and hows he doing.
In the spring of 1961 on a God planned chance encounters on the tennis courts at HardinSimmons University began the love affair that lasted 53 years and built a strong family. Their marriage bore a witness in the quiet places to a daughter who saw her parents rise early before her dad went to work in the oil field to have devotional and lift their children and family in prayer. Later a young women who would become a daughterinlaw saw in Jon the qualities she wanted in a husband. A man who made his wife laugh, worked hard to provide for his family, loved his wife and cared for her. She told Stacey if there was a chance he would be like Jon, then she was in.
Two of Jons favorite quotes were this too shall pass and God makes no mistakes. An example of this was when Jon was given an opportunity for a better job with more money and position that would require a move, he turned it down so his oldest son Andy could finish his senior year and play varsity basketball. God makes no mistakes, one year later that job no longer existed. He always thought of others first. As his son said, dad lived his life effortlessly. It was not a burden to him to take time for investing in others lives.
The love of Jons life was Alicia from 19 and 21 to 72 and 74 years of age. He told his children often how much he loves their mother. Evidence of this was on Friday night after and episode Alicia told him how he scared her and how she loved him and he said no matter what happens to me, I have always loved you.He was always thinking ahead to take care of Alicia, from investments, to having new tires placed on the car last week. He instilled most of in his children, the desire to love and care for their mother.
