Johnny Vestal

April 14, 1930 — January 16, 2022

Johnny Mac Vestal Sr., 91, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2022 at his Lubbock, Texas home. He previously resided in Hobbs, New Mexico for over 60 years.

He is survived by his daughter Pam and husband Ken of Lake Forest, California; son Johnny and wife Shelley of Lubbock, Texas; 3 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Lola.

Johnny was born April 14, 1930, in Whitewright, Texas, to Grover and Pearl Vestal. He was the youngest of four boys. Growing up on a farm provided lots of stories to share throughout his life. Johnny spent his school years in Whitewright, Texas. After graduating from High School, he served in the United States Army, and was honorably discharged. Mr. Vestal moved to Hobbs in 1951, where he worked in the oil industry. In 1953 he met Lola Posey while sending a telegram at the local Western Union office. It was love at first sight for both. They married September 5,1953 and were married over 55 years until her death in 2009.

Johnny enjoyed going to both in-town and on-the-road football games to see daughter Pam play in the Hobbs High School marching band; and to support son Johnny playing baseball for Hobbs High School and Texas Tech University.

After retirement from the oil industry, Mr. Vestal enjoyed driving cars for a number of automobile dealerships throughout the southwest. He also indulged his interest for working on older vehicles.

To all who knew him, Johnny had an infectious smile and “gift of gab” and loved talking to all who crossed his path - friends and strangers alike. His long friendships provided welcome support over the years.

Johnny’s greatest passion was for the salvation and kindness of the Good Lord. He is now walking hand in hand with his Savior.

He will be missed by all who knew and worked with him.
