Memorial services for John Everett Rachel will be Saturday, March 5, 2011, 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church officiated by Pastor Darren Skinner.
John died Friday, February 25, 2011, at the Heart Hospital in Lubbock. He was born September 15, 1923, in Sipe Springs, Texas, to John and Hattie Rachel. John married Nicky Williams June 11, 1949, in Tucson, AZ. He has been an active member of First United Methodist Church since 1951.
The two moved to Hobbs in 1951 where John was a Scout Master for six years, Wesleyan Sunday School class treasurer, Sunday School Superintendent, a weather spotter for the city of Hobbs, a 42nd degree Mason, a volunteer for Good Sam bingo, and a charter member of McDonalds Coffee Club. He worked for Watson Truck and Supply for fortyfive years.
Surviving John is his wife, Nicky three sons, David F. Rachel and wife Ann, of El Paso, Texas, John M. Rachel and wife Aimee, of Corinth, Texas, and Steven L. Rachel and wife Cathey, of Hobbs 11 grandchildren and 12 greatgrandchildren.
Johns parents, a sister, and greatgrandson, Seth Conder, preceded him in death.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Johns name to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 200 E. Snyder, Hobbs, NM 88240.
