John Wayne Prather was born on September 6, 1944 to Raymond Marcellas and Suella McCallie Prather in Dumas, Texas. He spent most of his adult life in the oilfield industry. Whether it was with Kerr McGee, who he retired with after 10 years, ConocoPhillips who he also retired with after 10 years, John was a dedicated and knowledgeable man. John assisted numerous clients in a myriad of aspects before moving to Farmington, New Mexico for Devon Energy. He was an educator for San Juan College for the last seven years, specializing in Safety and Environmental Sciences. His dedication to keeping workers safe 247 crossed all barriers. John was known as a leader in his industry by all who knew and worked alongside him. He had special ties with many OSHA field offices and staff as well as TECS consultants and representatives worldwide. John proudly and honorably served his country in the military, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam as a medic stationed with the Marine Corps. John enjoyed building things, planting rose bushes, riding trains, collecting guns and hunting.
