John Payne

John Paul Payne was born in Gorman, Texas on May 1, 1947. He passed away Thursday, March 13, 2014 with his family by his side.

God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be, so he put His arms around you and whispered Come with me. With tearful eyes we watched you and saw you pass away. And, though we loved you dearly we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating. Hardworking hands were put to rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best.

John Paul graduated from Andrews High School in 1966. He has lived in Hobbs for the last 35 years.

He was the ultimate entrepreneur His businesses include: Cadillac Wranglers feedstore motel management Rusty Cork Playmates Tumbleweed Limousine Service JPs Roping Arena and Spur Services Rental. His business partner and daughter, Kari Payne, will continue their oil servicing company, Spur Services Rental.

John Pauls passion in life was his daughter Kari and his granddaughters Emma and Gorgie Hargrove, calf roping, team roping, and just riding his horses. He was a member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association.

John Paul was a gracious and humble man. He had a big generous heart, a love for people, and unique humor which resulted in many, many lasting friendships.

He is survived by his daughter Kari Payne, his granddaughters Emma and Gorgie Hargrove, all of Hobbs and his girlfriend of six years, Alicia Noel of Tuscon, Arizona. He is also survived by his sisters, Jo Beth Peebles, and Janis Ferrell, their spouses, and their children.

The funeral service will be held at Cowboy Junction Church, 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 17, 2014, with Pastor Ty Bean officiating. Interment will follow at Prairie Haven Cemetery where John Paul will be laid to rest beside his mother Pauline Hallum Payne, and his father John Oscar Payne.
