Funeral services for Joe David Huerta, 47, of Lubbock, Texas, will be 2 p.m. Monday, March 22, 2010, at Zion Full Gospel Church, 521 S. Turner, Hobbs. Pastor Ruth Granger of Zion Full Gospel Church and Pastor Robert Renteria of the Church on the Rock in Lubbock, Texas, will officiate. Burial will be immediately after services at Prairie Haven Memorial Park.
Visitation will be Sunday 1 6 p.m. and Monday 9 a.m. 12 p.m. at Chapel of Hope Funeral Home which is chage of arrangements. The family will be receiving visitors at the home of Davids mother on Sunday 4 7 p.m.
Huerta died March 17, 2010, at his home in Lubbock, Texas. He was born June 16, 1962, in Hobbs.
David was an avid sports fan. He was an athletic trainer for the Hobbs Eagles under Ralph Tasker in the 1980s. Shortly after graduating from Hobbs High School, David enlisted in the US Navy and was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia, as a boiler technician aboard the USS Detroit. David received an honorable discharge in 1988 at which time he returned home and joined the Lea County Sheriff Department for a brief time before moving to Lubbock where he worked for the US Postal Service for 18 years. David enjoyed his family and spending time with his mother and two brothers. He enjoyed drag racing which has been a family hobby for over thirty years with The Mexican Jumping Bean wheelstander. He enjoyed car shows, dancing, traveling and golf. However, his all time favorite was Texas Tech football. David will be missed by all, but by his mom and brothers most of all. His smile and laughter will always live in our hearts. He was the second son and the middle brother.
Survivors include a son, Justin Dass of Tyler, Minnesota his mother Janie Gonzales and husband, Ralph, two brothers Donny Huerta and wife Carla, and DEdward Huerta nephews Seth Hill and Cameron Huerta a niece, Jade Huerta and cherished family friends, Freddy and Delia Garcia, who were there for him.
David was preceded in death by his father, Gonzalo Pete Huerta in 1983 grandparents Jose and Susie Macias and Diego and Beatrice Huerta.
