Joe Galyean

Joe Galyean was born April 1, 1935 in Snyder, TX. He passed away in Hobbs, NM on March 5, 2017.

His family moved to Mineola, TX when he was in the second grade. They moved because his dad was farming, renting land to grow cotton. The family decided to move to Mineola so his dad could join his brother and father to grow watermelons. His father decided to move back to Snyder, TX in 1948. That was about the time the oil boom was going on in Scurry County. He graduated from Snyder High in 1954. He started working for The Continental Supply Co. in Snyder in 1955. A year later he was transferred to Post, TX. It was then, that he married his high school sweetheart, Shelia Phillips. Their first son, Robert Kyle was born in Post, TX April 25, 1957. Later that year he was transferred to Hobbs, NM, where their second son Kendall Mark was born on January 17, 1962. Joe left the company of almost 15 years of service and went to work for Axelson, Inc, a sub-surface pump company, also in Hobbs, NM. He later met his second wife, Marcia Kay Edwards and they were married in Lovington, NM on November 24, 1976. He continued working for Axelson, Inc thru a merger into Dresser Oil Tools and then into Halliburton. He took a package in November 1998 after almost 29 years of service. He then went to work for a friend, Larry Harper who he had worked with at Axelson, Inc. He had just bought Garner Pump & Supply. He went to work for him on November 23, 1998 and worked for him until 2009.

Survivors include his wife, Marcia Kay of the home; two sons, Kyle and wife Kelly and Kendall of Hobbs; two granddaughters, Stephanie Wright and Tammy Jo Kincaid; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Thomas Wayne and Sandra of Snyder Texas; sister-in-law, Mary Galyean of Dallas, TX; as well as several nieces, Kinsey, Sonya and Page and nephews, Brian and Kevin.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil Franklin and Blanche Lorene Galyean of Snyder, Texas; a brother, Richard Mack Galyean and nephew, Thomas Wayne Galyean.
