Joe Hill Floyd, 75, of Hobbs passed away Jan. 19, 2007, in his home. A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, at First United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Revs. Steve Chappell and Russell Hill. Chapel of Hope is in charge of arrangements.
Joe Floyd was born May 9, 1931, to Haskell and Rosemary Floyd in Ada, Okla. He received a B.S. degree from East Central State University in Ada and an M.S. degree from Eastern New Mexico University in Portales. On Dec. 21, 1950, Joe and Glynese Boley were married in Ada, Okla.
A member of the 45th Division of the United States Army, he was awarded the Bronze Star for valor durshy;ing the Korean conflict.
Joe taught science at Hobbs High School from 1957 until 1973. In 1973 be became a partner with Ed Kirkmeyer in Kirkmeyer Electric where he remained until 1992.
Joe was preceded in death by his father, Haskell Floyd, and his grandparents, C.W and Eliza Floyd and Joe and Fay Hill .
Survivors include his wife, Glynese of the home; his mother, Rosemary Floyd of Hobbs; two daughters, Jody Ligon and husband Jim of Evergreen, Colo., and Marcy Branham and husband Luther of San Antonio, Texas; two granddaughters, Kristin Branham and Libby Branham; two grandsons, Kyle Ligon and Tyler Ligon; and his mother-in-law, Marian Boley.
Memorial contributions be made to Vista Care Hospice or to the endowment fund of First United Methodist Church.
