April 28, 2016, we lost our hero, Jimmie Lee Wagoner, after a long illness. Jim was born in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, October 28, 1938 to Pauline and Al Wagoner. He was 77 years old when he passed away. Jim filled our lives with joy, laughter and love. In spite of his health battles these past three years, Jim smiled through it all and kept a positive attitude and taught us never to give up. He was a quiet, sincere, and caring person. Jim was a soft spoken man that could build or make anything.
The Wagoner's moved to Eunice where he started first grade. Later they moved to Hobbs when Jim was in fifth grade. In the sixth grade he met a young lady that would in later years would become his wife. Graduating from Hobbs High School with many honors, Jim graduated from a Eastern New Mexico University in 1960 with a Bachelor's Degree in Education and in 1962 a with Master's degree in Education and later a Masters in Industrial Arts. He taught at Washington Elementary, Will Rogers, and College Lane in Hobbs. During this time, he owned and operated Wagoner's Appliance store with his Father. Jim taught industrial arts at Highland Junior High. He taught in the Hobbs Schools for twenty five years and loved it. He retired to care for his Mother, who had cancer and later his father with Alzheimer's disease. Jimmie will be remembered for his life's work as a dedicated educator and always willing to help others
Jim enjoyed working with his hands doing wood work, drawing and working on cars. He built a 1953 Anglia car from a kit, that his father and he enjoyed riding around town and taking trips in. Jim rebuilt a Volkswagen, switching the motor to the opposite end of the car for which it was rebuilt. He still has both of them. One of the many things he enjoyed was building tools for his shop to work with for his and many projects and components for his cars. Jim made a large entertainment center for his home, his bedroom suit, lamps with shades that were made from wood and transparency. Jim won many ribbons at the County Fair for his work.
Jim was a strong Christian and had been a member of the Church of Christ since he was a young man. He parents and Jim helped build the Jefferson Street Church of Christ.
Jim bowled on the teachers bowling league in younger years which he enjoyed very much. He also served on the school credit union board where he served as an officer. Jim belonged to the antique car club.
Jim had a very dear friend through school that he married in later life, Faye Craig Harper Wagoner. One of the wonderful parts of this, he now had an extended family that welcomed him. A granddaughter, Shara Havens and grandson, Ryan all surprisingly with the same birthday as his, October 28. His grandson, Craig's daughter and Jayleen, also celebrated birthdays on October 28, four in the same family with birthdays the same, just different years. WOW.
Jim leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, granddaughter Shara Havens and husband, grandson, Ryan, Doc Hollywood, Boss Man (their wonderful dogs, that Jim loved "Paw Paw") , Odessa, Texas. Craig Hukins, grandson and wife Meloanie, great-grandchildren, Jayleen and Cayden of North Carolina, brother-in-law Eddie Craig of Hobbs, niece Sharla Conway and husband Greg of Hobbs, niece Sharon and husband Dr. Doug Conway of Corrales, NM, nephew Royce Craig and wife of Wolforth, TX, Trent, Craig and Amanda of Wolforth, cousins Fern Warren, Beckey Winn and husband Kenneth, Jean and Johnny Laird of Las Cruces, Linda Ayers and husband Cecil of Las Cruces, Calvin Craig and wife Fran of Roswell, Nicci Austin and husband Doug of Roswell, Rubilee Craig of Lubbock, and Earl Craig and wife Sherry of Lubbock.
A wonderful husband and friend that will be truly missed. He is treasured by a host of friends and former students.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents and all his aunts, uncles and cousins.
