Jewel was born June 19, 1924, in Ardmore, Oklahoma, and later moved to Lubbock, Texas. She moved to Hobbs at the age of 9 and lived here ever since. She labored in the cotton fields as a child and continued to work hard, and also taught her chilshy;dren and grandchildren the value of hard work and perseshy;verance through the trials of her life. Kids were always drawn to her, and she had the unique ability to see the world through the eyes of a child. She never met a stranger, and people who knew her loved her and adopted her as their own. She was known for her wonshy;derful gardening and cooking skills. The kids always fought over her specialty, which was chocolate pie. And on any occasion, she would have a silly song to brighten the day. She is more than a mother, grandmother and memaw; she is also a friend who is dearly loved and missed by all.
Jewel was preceded in death by her parents, Alonzo and Myrtle Owen; her husband, H.W Shorty Roberts; and her siblings, Joseph, Edgar, J.T. Tallmadge Bee and David Owen, and Lillie Mae Chester Sis.
