He was born in Oaxaca, Mexico on January 5, 1930 from parents Hipolito Ojeda Jesus Ojeda, age 84, passed away on September 19, 2014 from diabetes in Hobbs, New Mexico.

He is survived by his children Hermilo Ojeda and spouse Pearl Acosta Ojeda of Hobbs, NM Luisa Ojeda of Albuquerque, NM Amy Solano and spouse Marcelo Solano of Hobbs, NM David Ojeda and spouse Joan Kinney Ojeda of Denver , Colorado and Yolanda Ojeda Yantz and spouse Randy Yantz from Atlanta, Georgia his sister Esperanza Cruz Ojeda from Oaxaca Mexico his companion Lucia Villalobos from Hobbs, New Mexico as well as 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
The rosary will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe church on Sunday at 6pm. The funeral service will be held at Our Lady Of Guadalupe at 10 am Monday followed with the burial at Prairie Haven.
He had a passion for music throughout his entire life. At the age of 13, in his hometown of San Martin, Mexico, he picked up the trumpet and taught himself. Later, he started playing for the hometown orchestra where he was given trumpet lessons. He came to the US under the JFK initiated program called the Bracero program in 1955. In the US, he played the trumpet with a famous orchestra named Las Palmeras out of Odessa, Texas then various bands such as Los Bohemians, the Night Riders, the Sunbows, Los Chavos, La Clika, Pablo Zepeda y su Orchestra, and finally La Union. After the band broke up, he continued his passion by playing for the church choir at the Lady of Guadalupe until December 2013.
He got the nick name Pico chulo, which means cute beak, because of the way he played the trumpet. He also had other names such as Jessie and Priciliano and Chuy.
He came from a poor background and only had a 4th grade education. He passed on his life lessons to his children who he saw as successful. His son Hermilo, runs his own business, the KLMA radio station in Hobbs, NM. His daughter Luisa Ojeda, works with Lockheed Martin in Albuquerque, NM. His daughter Amy Solano, who has been with NMJC for 20 years, has raised two children as a single mom and then blessed with a wonderful husband. HIs son David started with the Post Office and worked his way up to be a Manager at the US Post office in Denver Colorado. His daughter Yolanda, received a Masters degree with Honors from Purdue University and lives in Atlanta, Georgia. He was also proud of his grandkids. The older kids for finishing their education and enjoy his time with his great grandkids.
He worked repairing various real estate property for Rex Murdock homes and Mr Lewis Nance. He was able to travel all over the US because his boss Mr. Murdock enjoyed travelling with him in his private plane because of his honesty, high work ethic and easy going nature. He finally retired in 1992 and managed various rental properties of his own. In his retirement, he was actively involved with our Lady of Guadalupe church and the Cinco de Mayo Fiesta. He never forgot his roots and made a point to visit his hometown and family and friends where he was also well known and well liked for also contributing to the community. He earned the respect of his children, his friends and community.
