Funeral services for Jerry Gentry of Hobbs, New Mexico, will be 2 p.m. Sunday, October 5, 2008, at Chapel of Hope Funeral Home with Pastor David Matkins officiating. Burial will be 9:30 a.m. Monday, October 6, 2008, at Memory Gardens Cemetery. A private visitation will be held for Mr. Gentry. Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of Hope Funshy;eral Home.
Mr. Gentry died October 2, 2008, at Hobbs Health Care Center. He was born Marshy;ch 26, 1936, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He married Velma Montano Gentry in February, 1996, at St. PauI's Methodist Church in Hobbs, New Mexico.
Jerry had been a lifelong resshy;ident of Hobbs, New Mexico. He worked as a bookkeeper for New Mexico Electric for five years. He was active in the Acappella Choir at St. Paul's Methodist Church. Jerry had MS and had struggled with the disease for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Velma Gentry of Hobbs, New Mexico; a sister, Donna Hopper of Lubbock, Texas; a brother, Thomas Edward Gentry of Midland, Texas; a daughter, Deborah L. Neri of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and three grandchildren, Skyler, Cody and Dillon Neri.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Vivian Gentry. Memorial conshy;ibutions may be made to VistaCare Hospice or the MS Society.
