James J. (Jim) Wyche passed away on February 6, 2015 at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, Texas. Jim was born in Magdalena, New Mexico on July 30, 1928 to Lola Perdue Wyche and Ira Wyche. His early years were spent on ranches in western New Mexico. He graduated in 1946 from Hot Springs High School in Truth or Consequences, NM. He then entered the U.S. Coast Guard as a Seaman, First Class, stationed in Newport, Oregon. Jim later went to work for Dover Elevator and retired after 42 years. He lived on the Flying W Ranch near Wingate, Texas for 25 years before moving to Abilene and most recently Odessa.
Jim was an excellent chef and served some fabulous meals - particularly his mouth watering steaks. He was a member of the Texas Bluebonnets Travel Club, AOPA, New Mexico Mounted Patrol and West Texas Flyers. As a member of West Texas Flyers, he received the Certificate of Pilotage for having flown to North America's Highest Airport to an altitude of 9927 feet. Jim was a Masonic member and obtained his 32nd degree. He was a member of Suez Shrine Club, was a pilot for the Shriners Right to Life and maintained a lifetime membership in the Texas State Rifle Association and the NRA.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, Ira Wyche, his mother, Lola Perdue McGowen, two sisters, Eleanor Wyche and Helen Miller. He is survived by his sister, Bes Castleman of Odessa, Texas, several nieces and nephews, and his special and very dear friend, Pauline Smith of Abilene, Texas.
