Memorial services for James Jim Smith, 76, of Hobbs, will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 31, 2011, at First Baptist Church presided by Pastor Billy Chedister. Jim died December 28, 2011, in Lubbock, TX. He was born May 28, 1935, in Eldorado, AR, to Claude and Avo Smith. Jim married Marsha Alley July 3, 1964, at Northside Baptist in Hobbs, NM. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Hobbs.
Jim served in the US Army as an artillery engineer. He was an amateur radio operator he was a weather spotter for NOAA out of Midland, TX and he managed radio broadcasting of Sunday a.m. services of First Baptist for ten years.
Jim loved to fish and enjoyed hunting and wood crafting. He was a devoted husband and father. Jim was known as being able to repair most anything. He and his parents owned and operated CP Construction until 1991. Prior to retirement, he worked for Pro Treat about ten years.
Surviving Jim is his wife, Marsha of Hobbs son Tom Smith, and wife Trish, of Roanoke, VA daughter, Marlenda Hall, and fianc Wade Clark, of Lubbock,TX grandchildren, Adam Cobb of Roanoke, VA, JoBeth and Christian Clark of Lubbock, TX sister, Frances Stewart of Crane, TX and very special friend, John Hanners of Ruidoso, NM.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
