James Selman

September 4, 1926 — October 26, 2010

Bunk Selman passed from this life October 26, 2010, in Lubbock, Texas. He was born September 4, 1926, in the family rock house on the Eunice Highway south of Hobbs. His parents were Frank and Minnie Selman, Lea County pioneers.

A celebration of Bunks life will be held Friday, October 29, 2010, 2:00 p.m. at Temple Baptist Church with Pastor LaVoid Ford and Rev. David Matkins officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Haven Memorial Park.

Bunk left high school to serve his country during WWII in the 188th Paratrooper Division in the army. He received the WWII Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon. When the war ended he returned to Hobbs High School and graduated.

Bunk was a farmer, racher and businessman. In 1951 Bunk owned and operated J. I. Case Implement Company in Lovington, New Mexico. He started Bunks Feed Barn in 1958 which is owned and operated today by his son and daughterinlaw. Bunk was exceptionally good with livestock both horses and cattle. He was a hard worker and took pride in his work. He enjoyed riding horses, hunting, and barbequing for family gatherings.

He married Mary Gober in 1950 and had 3 children. He married Jean Hobson in 1976. She died in 2005.

Selman is survived by one son, Jim and wife Susan and granddaughter, Ashley Selman two daughters Pat Selman and Mary Jo Turner and husband Pete all of Hobbs one brother, JV Selman and wife Berline of Amarillo one sister Frances Scarborough of Lubbock several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. He is also survived by three step daughters, Marcia Hobson of Marble Falls, Texas, Valarie Hart and husband Monte of Carl Junction, Missouri, and Tanya Hobson of Austin, Texas.

Bunk was preceded in death by his wife Jean, his parents, Frank and Minnie Selman, and a sister, Josephine Sharp.

Services have been entrusted to Chapel of Hope.
