James Lloyd Hicks was born September 15, 1932 in Lubbock, Texas and passed away on September 3, 2014 in Lubbock, Texas.
He is survived by one brother, Norman Hicks and wife Margret of Jal two sons, Buddy Hicks and wife, Sharen, Joey Hicks and one daughter , Tammy Hamilton and husband, James all of Hobbs. Twentyfour grandchildren , twentyeight great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was married to the love of his life for fortysix years, Sue Hicks, whom preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by his father, Edgar Lee Hicks, mother, Connie Mae MaxwellHicks one brother, Eddie Hicks one sister Monica one daughter Cleta Sue Salmon and one great grandchild, Elijah James HicksTadpole.
James started his journey with the love of his life on June 24, 1967 in Juarez, Mexico. In 1973 they moved their family from Texas to Hobbs to take over the family business. The Broadway Newstand and operated it together for eighteen years. He worked for Town and Country for nine years and then worked for Precession Carwash until he retired in 2010 to take care of his wife.
James was an avid bowler, golfer, train collector, and a BIG Dallas Cowboy fan. His greatest joy in life was watching his children and grandchildren participate in all their activities. He was always behind the camera at family events, taking pictures of all his children, grandchildren and the greatgrandchildren. He was loved beyond measure by his family and will be dearly missed.
Visitation will be Monday, September 8 from 7am8pm at Chapel of Hope. The family will be in attendance at the funeral home from 57 pm. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, September 9, at Chapel of Hope, burial will follow at Prairie Haven Memorial Park with Pastor John Ayers officiating.
