James Gormley, Jr.

A funeral mass for James Cornelius Gormley, Jr. J.C. of Hobbs will be Thursday, March 4, 2010, at 2 p.m. at St. Helena Catholic Church. Fr. Juan Carlos Ramirez will officiate.

Burial will follow after services at Memory Gardens Cemetery.

A prayer service will be held Wednesday, March 3, from 5 6 p.m. at Chapel of Hope, which is in charge of arrangements.

Gormley, 84, died February 27, 2010,a t Lea Regional Medical Center. He was born November 27, 1925, in Bearden, Oklahoma.

J.C. graduated from Hobbs High School in l944. He served three years as a radio gunner on a Helldiver in the Naval Air Corps. After the service, he attended Texas Tech earning a Bachelors Degree in business administration in 1951. After graduation, he was employed by Jarratt Music in Hobbs. Jarratt Music eventuallty became Rodgers Music and then J.C., Dave Clark and Bill Waldrop purchased Rodgers Music and founded Music World where he was currently serving as vicepresident. J.C. was a part of the music business 58 years. J.C. served as a Scoutmaster of BSA Troop 45 in Hobbs for fifty years and was a member of the executive board of Conquistador Council BSA. He attended three national BSA Jamborees and had nearly 100 young scouts from his troop earned the Eagle Scout Award. J.C. was awarded the Silver Beaver Award. He also served as past president of Hobbs Rotary Club and was a fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Helena Catholic Church. He was an active member of St. Helena Catholic Church and was one of the oldest members.

Survivors include four brothers, John Gormley and his wife Ruth Ruth of Grand Prairie, Texas, Pat Gormley of Fort Worth, Texas, Don Gormley of Hobbs and Raymond Gormley and wife Judith of Portales, New Mexico three nephews Shawn Gormley, Mark Gormley and Matthew Gormley three nieces, Sheila Sanchez, Pam Huret and Kaylee Edwards.

J.C. was preceded in death by his parents, James and Myrtle Gormley.
